Connicks Genealogy Requests and Contacts Page

This is a request on the etymology of the Connick name. (i.e., the meaning of the name, and whether the language from which it is derived is Irish or Scottish Gaelic, Cornish or English etc.). Do you know what the the name meant? (The Devonshire/ Cornwall name may have a different origin from the Scottish/Irish name, and even the Irish and Scottish variations of the name might have a different etymology, although at at least some of the Connicks from south-western Britain emigrated to Ireland in the 17th-18th centuries.)

Also, are there any books, web sites or organizations that might have this information ?

Would like to contact anyone who may be researching Capt. John T. Connick, b. 19 Sep 1839, in St. David, Charlotte, NB, CAN. Married (1) Caroline Gerrish Harmon, dau. of Nathaniel Harmon and Almira (Ellis) Gerrish, who was b. 4 Sep 1842 in E. Machias, Washington, ME. Capt John T. died on 16 Dec 1881 in Steilacoom, Pierce, WT and is buried in the
Buena Vista Cemetery, Port Gamble, Kitsap, WT. Caroline Gerrish died on 20 May 1867, in Port Gamble, WT and is also buried in the Buena Vista Cemetery.

Capt John T.'s parents may have been William Connick and Agnes?? I have a copy of the 1851 Census, Charlotte County, St. David Parish, NB CAN, page 2, the following appears. Child No 3, John age 12.

In the 1870 Feb Census, Kitsap County, Seabeck, WT the following:

John Connick, 34, Occupation Seaman, Personal Estate $500.00, Birthplace ME

In the marriage of John T. and Caroline there was a child born 1867, named Carrie G. Connick. In the 1870 Census she was staying with her grandparents Nathaniel Harmon and Almira Gerrish.

Have always suspected that maybe Caroline G. may have died during childbirth??

Capt John T. marr. (2) cir. 1876, Clara Gove, who was b. cir. 1856. By this marriage there was one child born. Ava Connick b. cir. 1880.

1883 Census, WT, Pierce County, Steilacoom.
