People have been wondering how the reunion went so here is a brief summary for your information.

Close to 100 Connick descendants of John Connick and Catherine Tobin, Matthew Connick and Bridget Brennan, and Moses Connick and Catherine Hickey gathered in Kinkora on the week-end of August 9 - 11, 2002. Kin from Texas, Virginia, Massachusetts and New York in the US and British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia in Canada joined with many Islanders in renewing acquaintances and celebrating the family history. The first record of Connicks on PEI was when John Connick petitioned for clear fallow land on June 9, 1823.

On Friday evening local MLA Eric Hamill brought greetings from the province and welcomed everyone to Kinkora. Family members were encouraged to locate themselves on the family trees which were posted on the walls. Bill Connick and Helen Turner related a little of the history of the Matthew and Moses Connick lines. Jenny McQuaid, accompanied by her daughter Jennifer on the keyboard, regaled everyone with her "Bridget" character.

On Saturday some people took advantage of their free time to visit the cemeteries in Indian River, Summerfield, Summerside and Corran Ban where most of the Connicks were buried. The banquet on Saturday evening was catered by the Kinkora Village Bakery and Deli. Prizes were distributed to various family members. Family members, Marlys Hamilton, Samantha MacKay and Delmar Connick were joined by  Brittany Banks entertained the gathering with dancing and singing. The eveing ended with John Burke providing music for dancing..

At the church service on Sunday morning, celebrated at St. Malachy’s Church in Kinkora, Fr. Joe Connick based his homily on the Beatitudes. The reunion ended with a family picnic on the grounds of the Kinkora Community Centre.

Many others expressed an interest in coming, some wondering if there would be any from the Charlotte County, NB branch.  Last reunion in 1998 we had twenty some Connicks from the Mirimachi but none returned for this reunion.  We didn't have any discussion about the next reunion but I think everyone agreed that this one was better than the last, maybe because we are getting to know each other better.
